摘要
The lecture provides a comprehensive analysis of the economic repercussions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing comparisons with the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) while emphasizing the theoretical underpinnings of Minsky's moments and the Financial Instability Hypothesis (FIH). The COVID-19 crisis, unlike the GFC, precipitated a sudden and unprecedented global economic halt, unearthing systemic vulnerabilities in financial structures worldwide. Policy responses, characterized by extensive quantitative easing and fiscal stimulus reminiscent of the GFC era, have raised concerns regarding their efficacy and potential adverse effects. The discussion extends to macroeconomic facets, such as the proliferation of non-performing loans (NPLs) and the persistence of zombie firms, further accentuating economic fragility. Emerging economies confront additional challenges, grappling with escalating borrowing costs amid a looming silent debt crisis. Despite concerted efforts to stabilize economies, persistent uncertainties foreshadow a potential. Minsky moment characterized by asset devaluation and unsustainable debt levels. The lecture will highlight that despite underscoring the imperative for tailored policy interventions and systemic solutions to address the unique exigencies of the COVID-19 crisis and its enduring economic ramifications.
